Marc Chagall

Marc Chagall was a Russian-born French artist renowned for his poetic, dreamlike paintings, stained glass, and illustrations that blend modernist styles with Jewish folklore and personal symbolism.

He worked in a wide range of media, including painting, stained glass, book illustrations, stage sets, ceramics, tapestries, and prints.

Notable projects include stained-glass windows for the cathedrals of Reims and Metz, the Fraumünster in Zürich, the United Nations, and the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as the ceiling of the Paris Opéra His work is celebrated for its vivid color, emotional depth, and imaginative compositions.

“If I create from the heart, nearly everything works; if from the head, almost nothing.”

“Art must be an expression of love or it is nothing.”

“Color is all. When color is right, form is right. Color is everything, color is vibration like music; everything is vibration.”

“The dignity of the artist lies in his duty of keeping awake the sense of wonder in the world.”

“I work in whatever medium likes me at the moment.”
